Changing Lives Through Your Taste Buds

Updated: Mar 4, 2023

A little support could make a big difference in the lives of locals.

In a world where social and economic barriers prevent marginalised members of our own community from achieving goals and opportunities, Angel Community has emerged to provide a platform for homemade sellers to sell their products.

After personally witnessing the devastating impact of the pandemic on their friends’ and family members’ businesses and livelihoods, Jazz Tan (33 years old) and three other co-founders were moved to establish Angel Community in the year 2022.

With hopes of making a positive difference in society, they based the centre in a 121-year-old building at Georgetown, along Jalan Hutton. Jazz explains, “Our aim and objectives for Angel Community is to support the community especially from the OKUs (disabled), the elderly, single parents, and young entrepreneurs”.

Hence, Angel Community offers two services to the public, both of which will benefit these homemade sellers: 1. event space booking; 2. homemade catering.

Event Space Booking

Angel Community has three spaces available for booking:

1. First Floor Event Hall (40 pax)

2. Private Meeting Room (15 pax)

3. Ground Floor Hall (20 pax)

Booking of the event space itself is free-of-charge, whereas renting equipment like the projector, sound system, and air conditioning comes with an additional charge.

Angel Community strongly encourages guests with more than 10 pax to pre-order food or drinks from them and show support towards their homemade sellers as outside food and drinks are not allowed within the premise.

Alternatively, guests may browse through the café at the ground floor and purchase any of the food or drinks as everything on display is from the homemade sellers themselves.

Homemade Catering

Angel Community provides two types of catering services:

1. In-House Dining (10-40 pax)

2. External Events (200-300 pax)

The size that Angel Community can accommodate for customers who would like to dine within the premise depends on which space they are dining at, whereas they can provide catering for external events for as much as 300 pax.

When customers seek out catering services from Angel Community, they are supporting all the homemade cooks and sellers who are from the OKUs, single parents, elderly, and young entrepreneurs’ community.

Supporting Members of the Community

“For year 2023, our aim and objective are to help 100 OKUs (disabled), single parents, young entrepreneurs, and elderly,” Jazz shares, “So, this 100 will be a number for us, to support them – and also for them to graduate from where they are. Meaning to say that they can spin-off their own business, register their own business, or they can even open their own store.”

Angel Community would only be able to achieve its goal of serving and empowering these groups of people with help and support from others in the local community. Thus, Jazz states, “We will need all the public members help. If you have any catering, programs, birthdays, celebrations, company programs – please let us know. We would love to support your programs, in return also support the community that we have.”

So, come and support Angel Community by booking their space and catering, and join their journey to help change lives through your taste buds.
